For the Earth: PRESENT — the Power of Regenerative Finance and Web3 to Accelerate Mangrove Reforestation

The final chapter of the Better Worlds' Mangrove-ReFi Collaboration Challenge pilot.

Present

The final chapter of the Better Worlds' Mangrove-ReFi Collaboration Challenge pilot.

Pilot Narrative

A short narrative regarding this Collaboration Challenge.

We now live immersed in three interconnected worlds: our Natural world, driven by water and light; the physical and social world fashioned by humans; and a world which is created by and with digital systems and devices.

The foundations of modern life depend on the stability and potentiality of all three worlds. However, the integrity of our eco-systems are under severe challenges while our outdated human-made industrial practices are failing across the board.

To address these challenges, we have invited leading minds, to do something which has never been done before: To harness the power of decentralized collaborative intelligence to restore and regenerate what has been lost, socially, economically, and environmentally, on a Scale that matters.

Will the integration of Web3 and related technologies with ESG initiatives represent a significant opportunity to create innovative organizational structures, new ownership models with economic incentives to help achieve a more collaborative, inclusive and healthy or regenerative world?

Let’s find out together,
On Better Worlds.

WHY MANGROVES?

Mangroves are important. 200 million people around the globe rely on them both for food, and for protection from typhoons & hurricanes. They are considered among the planet’s most important habitats and can help mitigate the impacts of climate change because of their capacity to store large amounts of organic carbon — the soils they create are incredibly carbon rich. There is high potential for reforestation - both to sequester carbon, and to improve the wellbeing of rural, coastal communities.

We believe Regenerative Finance and Web3 can be the bridge.

Please join Web3 and ReFi leaders, earth data experts, mangrove experts, and trans-disciplinary innovators to explore how we can protect and accelerate mangrove reforestation.

SESSION 02 RECAP

ITERATE, held during the week of May 16, was a second round of collaborations where participants dove deeper into Web3 and Regenerative Finance after completing collective research and empathy building activities and establishing collaboration foundations focused upon Mangroves.MAY19For the Earth: ITERATE Using the Power of Regenerative Finance and Web3 to Accelerate Mangrove ReforestationThu, May 19, 10:01 AM - 11:31 AM GMT+3

SESSION 01 RECAP

In session 01, held the week of May 2nd, we completed empathy building research gathered from a small collection of domain experts and project developers. We heard about mangroves — a powerful nature-based solution, the gaps of our global economy, and the significant challenges faced by project developers including Neal Spackman, Sergey Ivliev, Seabstian Gärtner, and Will Ruddick who are considering or already using Web3 tools for fundraising via NFT's, tokenization of carbon, tracability of monitoring and verification events. We also heard practical wisdom from Dominic Woodhouse a veteran in the field.

Participants explored a number of research interviews based upon Jobs to Be Done theory which had been conducted for this events, short soundbites were extracted and organized according to a collection of themes. These interviews helped participants foster empathy and understanding about the project developers and domain experts working in the field of mangrove conservation and regeneration. These can be viewed here.MAY5For the Earth: Using the Power of Regenerative Finance and Web3 to Accelerate Mangrove ReforestationThu, May 5, 10:01 AM - 11:31 AM GMT+3

Better Worlds' Mission

We believe that the digital revolution is transforming the very nature of the way we live.  Our mission is to help understand how to best utilize its latest manifestation, Web3, grounded in intelligent interactivity and related decentralized technologies, to build a better world.  We believe in creating a collaborative, inclusive and sustainable community to explore the innovative potential of Web3 to contribute to achieving the UN’s Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) Goals.

Better Worlds is a communication and community building platform comprising weekly podcasts, engaging international conferences and hack-a-thons to encourage and support the development of Web3 ESG solutions.  Our programs celebrate voices from every continent to forge a shared and abundant future.

As web3 and the for-profit corporate sector moves into the ESG space our intention is to spotlight important voices and host conversations that shed light and foster collaboration towards achieving shared ESG goals. There is a wide gap between the emergent Web3 world and real-world ESG applications that needs to be bridged if we are to build viable solutions to solve the climate crisis and other challenging economic and social issues.

We will spotlight leaders working towards a better future to a broad audience including cultural leaders, impact investors, climate tech, and sustainability leaders in both startups and enterprise organizations

Nature Tech Nexus

The Nature.Tech Nexus mission is to increase the flow of financial capital, human-genius, and public awareness towards nature-based climate solutions in order to amplify and accelerate the complex and courageous work of ecological regeneration.
